The Chakra

Shortly before the Hasmonean revolt, Antiochus built the Chakra (Fortress) and settled there people of his choosing. Over the course of 150 years of archaeological research in Jerusalem, numerous ideas were raised as to the location of the Chakra,  but most were not based on meaningful archaeological remnants. In 2015, the archaeologists Dr. Doron Ben-Ami and Yana Tchekhanovets suggested that the remnants of the Chakra were found in the Givati Parking Lot in the City of David. On this tour we will visit Area G and the Givati Parking Lot, we will describe the finds that were made, and attempt to understand whether the mystery of the Chakra has been solved.

The discovery of the Chakra will be the main focus of Dr. Doron Ben-Ami’s lecture at the conference.
